Scientists agree that many people are eating too much junk food and it is damaging their health. Some people think that these problems can be solved by educating people to eat less junk food. Other people believe that education will not work. Discuss both the opinions and give your own opinion.

A big belly, thick glasses and a plate full of junk food in hand in front of the TV is a common picture in many modern houses. Fast foods and their unwanted results have become an inseparable part of our lives nowadays. A common belief suggests that educating people about the dangers of eating this junk food can do a lot in reducing its consumption, but many others hold the opinion that education alone is not enough and cannot fully tackle this issue. Both these arguments are going to be discussed in this essay before reaching a reasonable conclusion on how to downsize the overuse of junk food in modern societies.

On the one hand, education can indeed play an important role. When people are aware of the long-term health risks of obesity, diabetes or heart disease, they are more likely to make better dietary choices. Schools, workplaces and media campaigns can encourage healthier habits by providing information and practical guidance. For example, many governments now print calorie counts and sugar levels on food packaging, and this transparency has helped some individuals limit their junk food intake. Therefore, it is true that knowledge and awareness can push people in the right direction.

On the other hand, there is strong evidence that education alone does not change behaviour. Even though most people know junk food is unhealthy, they still buy it because it is cheap, tasty, and convenient. The modern lifestyle often leaves little time for home cooking, which makes fast food the easiest option. Moreover, advertising by multinational food companies is extremely powerful and can easily outweigh educational campaigns. In this sense, relying only on education may sound ideal but is often unrealistic in practice.

In my opinion, education should be combined with stricter government action. While people must be informed, they also need support in making healthier choices. This could involve imposing higher taxes on sugary drinks, limiting junk food advertisements, and making healthy food more affordable and accessible. By combining knowledge with structural changes, societies will have a better chance of reducing their dependence on fast food.

In conclusion, although education is a useful tool to create awareness about the dangers of junk food, it is not a complete solution. Broader measures such as government policies and better access to healthy alternatives are also required. A mix of awareness and action would be the most effective strategy to improve public health.

Most Important Takeaways for IELTS / PTE Essay Writing (Discuss Both Views + Opinion):

  • Always paraphrase the question in your introduction. Copying it directly can lower your score.

  • Keep your essay 5 paragraphs – this structure is examiner-friendly and clear.

  • Use cohesive devices (on the one hand, however, therefore, in conclusion, etc.) naturally. Don’t overuse them.

  • Give examples from daily life, studies, or workplace – simple but relevant.

  • Maintain a formal and academic tone. Avoid casual words like “stuff, things, a lot”.

  • In your opinion paragraph, always take a clear stance. Balance is fine, but the examiner should know your position.

  • Manage time wisely in the exam: 5 minutes for planning, 30 minutes for writing, 5 minutes for checking grammar/spelling.

  • 🎯 Special Note for Aspirants

If you are preparing for IELTS September 2025, October 2025, November 2025, or December 2025 exams, or even planning your PTE attempt, mastering this essay style is a score-booster. A well-structured “Discuss Both Views” essay often becomes a band 7+ snatcher for many candidates.

This is especially important if you are planning to study abroad or migrate in 2025–26. Essay writing is not just about English—it’s about showing critical thinking + clarity + logical progression.

Some people think that new houses should be built in the same style as the older houses in the local area. Others disagree and say local authorities should allow people to build houses in the style of their own choice. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Some people think that new houses should be built in the same style as the older houses in the local area. Others disagree and say local authorities should allow people to build houses in the style of their own choice.  Discuss both views and give your opinion.

New houses should be built in the same style or not

Essay:

The design of housing has long been a subject of debate. While some argue that new houses should reflect the traditional architecture of the local area, others believe individuals should have the freedom to choose their preferred style. Both views carry weight, and a balanced consideration is necessary.

(For anyone preparing for IELTS or PTE essay writing tasks, presenting balanced approach in discuss both the views essay can be tricky but at the same time, can be more rewarding😎)

On the one hand, constructing new houses in the same style as older ones helps maintain the cultural identity and aesthetic harmony of a neighbourhood. Traditional buildings often embody historical values, regional craftsmanship, and a sense of community continuity. If new constructions diverge drastically in appearance, the area may lose its architectural coherence and even its tourism appeal. For instance, many European towns preserve medieval façades to attract visitors and to ensure that residents feel connected to their heritage.

From an IELTS Writing Task 2/PTE Essay- perspective, this idea supports the argument with strong cultural and social evidence.

On the other hand, restricting people to one particular architectural style may limit creativity and personal expression. Housing is not merely about shelter but also about lifestyle and individual choice. Modern families may require practical designs, such as energy-efficient layouts, larger open spaces, or smart-home technology, which may not blend well with older styles. Allowing homeowners to design according to their needs can promote innovation and improve living standards.

This is a strong point to use in both IELTS essays and PTE writing tasks, as it demonstrates awareness of contemporary global issues.

In my opinion, a middle ground is the most reasonable approach. Local authorities should preserve the character of historically significant zones, where heritage is a collective asset. At the same time, in suburban or newly developed areas, individuals should have the liberty to design houses that reflect their own preferences and contemporary needs.

For aspirants aiming for band 8 IELTS essays or high-scoring PTE written discourse, this kind of balanced opinion showcases critical thinking and strong cohesion.

In conclusion, maintaining traditional architecture helps protect cultural identity, whereas freedom of design encourages innovation and personal satisfaction. A combination of these approaches would ensure that cities remain both historically meaningful and forward-looking, ultimately benefiting society as a whole.
