Definitions made handy !

  • These definitions can be very useful while writing your essays, or expressing your thoughts in your speaking.  Make them handy !
  1. Brain Drain- Migration of educated & professionals (high-brows) from underdeveloped or developing to developed countries/ from countryside to cities usually for better pay or living conditions. Also known as “Human Capital Flight.”  
  2. Corporal punishment - a form of physical punishment that involves the deliberate infliction of pain as retribution for an offence, or for the purpose of disciplining or reforming a wrongdoer. / An act of physical punishment that involves pain.  
  3. Capital punishment - The sentence of death upon a person by judicial process as a punishment for an offence. Also known as the death penalty or execution. 
  4. Culture the totality of socially transmitted behavior patterns, arts, beliefs, institutions, and all other products of human work and thought./ a particular form or stage of civilization of a certain nation or period./ a kind of trend
  5. Digital Divide - The gap between those with access to digital and information technology and those without it.   
  6. Juvenile delinquency - Antisocial or illegal behavior by children or adolescents. 
  7. Euthanasia - the practice of intentionally ending a life to relieve pain and suffering.
  8. Feminism – The struggle of women for equal rights and opportunities as available to men.   
  9.  Nepotism favoritism (as in appointment to a job) based on kinship. / Giving priorities to one’s relatives, overlooking others.
  10. Telecommuting – To work from home. One maintains his presence in office electronically via phone or internet.

If you are not aware about any of them, must learn them as they are often used in your writing task's question and you are asked to discuss about their pros. and cons, their causes, solutions, consequences etc.So I  tried to make them easy and you now make them handy.
